HOME MADE GRANOLA RECIPES

I give you two home made granola recipes today. Yum.

Why would you bother to make granola  at home if you can buy them in the supermarket?
Because they are much more delicious and real. You can customize them adding your favourite spices, nuts and fruits. And yours never contain additives and preservatives.

Healthy high fibre granola

This granola gives a nutritious start to your day - and delicious. It gives you fibre and the right kind of fatty acids. I love making it as it's lovely smell fill the house... It is a great fun to make this recipe with kids - they can also add their favourite fruits and nuts.

Ingredients

1/4 cup sunflower or walnut oil
1/4 cup clear honey
1 cup jumbo oats
1 cup porridge oats
2 tbsp wheat bran
1 tbsp linseed

Nuts & seeds:
Handful of mixture of chopped almonds and hazelnuts or walnuts
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds

Dried fruits:
raisins
prunes or dried cranberries

1 tsp cinnamon

Put the sunflower oil and the the honey in a pan and melt them together it does not need to be very warm. Add the oats, nuts and seeds, stir well and spread out on a large tray. Bake it on 140 degrees (fan 120)  for 40-50 minutes. Stir it once- twice during cooking time, specially if your oven roast unevenly. Let it cool down and stir in the dried fruits  and cinnamon. It keeps well for a month in an airtight jar- however it never lives for so long in our house. :-)

Toasted quinoa granola

It is perfect if you want a gluten free and high protein granola for breakfast.
Do not expect a crunchy granola here, the secret is to dry the quinoa in the oven, but not to make it chewy.

Ingredients

200g cooked quinoa
1 tbsp clear honey
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp chopped hazelnuts
1 tbsp chopped almond
2 tbsp chopped dried apricot

Mix the ingredients - with exception of the apricots - and spread them on baking tray lined with baking paper. Roast the mixture in the oven on 180 degrees (fan 160 degrees) for 10-15 minutes. Stir the mixture once during the cooking time. Cool completely and mix  in the dried fruit and store it an airtight jar. It is great with yoghurt or formage frais. Make just a small amount as it can be kept only for a couple of weeks.
